Cotton Wool Brain

Cotton Wool Brain

My forever aim is to pen
An inspiring piece each day
Though I sit here at my desk
My mind will just not play

Maybe because it’s Saturday
Though Tuesday was the same
Fog has encroached my license
Heck,  cranial mist is to blame

Browse my list of exceptional words
To try and gather stimulation
But nothing emerges to my shame
Of my condition, no revelation

I glance to the open window
Air might give me a jolt
I search and scour the garden
Zilch..... Mind in total revolt

Exasperated I reach for coffee
Splash face with ice-cold waters
Return to my desk with vigour
Situation the same, nought alters

Not a single notion has come
Creativity down the drain
Convinced I have the answer
Cotton wool has invaded my brain

Reflections after 'Ladies Night Out'

Reflections after ‘Ladies Night Out’

I look in the mirror ‘Yuk’

Have I been hit by a truck?

Smudged mascara under my eyes

How come I’m in this demise?

Did I have that much to drink?

More than usual? Must have, I think?

Judging by my looks I can see

It was definitely much more than three.

There a sunflower in my hair,

How it got there I really don’t care.

But it’s dripped all down my neck

I clearly need to shower, by heck.

My tights are torn at the knee,

And my dress smells of Chablis

Gosh. in my bra is tucked a fiver

Was that to pay the cab driver?

Madge was in a worse state than me

She tried to chat up a small lemon tree

Janet sung a duet with Daisy

and so off key, it sounded  crazy

Barbara D. was dancing the foxtrot

With a man in a kilt, yes a Scot.

She kept trying to lift up that skirt,

But I don’t want to dish out the dirt

Now lying in bed feeling smug,

Bit icky but comfy and snug,

Reflect on last night with my mates

Brill night, one of the all time greats

Everyone thought I looked so chic,

Not one of those gals gave critique

Why do I fret each time we meet,

With friends so perfect, so discrete.

Reflections prior ‘Ladies Night Out’

Reflections prior ‘Ladies Night Out’

I look in the mirror...’Yuk’,

Do I need a nip and a tuck?

Can’t leave it till much later.

How comes I look like my mater?

When did these wrinkles appear?

Oh no, that’s old age drawing near.

But I’m still in my youthful prime,

To surrender to age is a crime.

Next year forty four I will be,

But I still want to look thirty-three.

Right, on with the nourishing mask.

To rectify things, my first task

I need to look smooth and bright,

I don’t wish to look like a fright

When meeting the girls for a drink

Got to look good, don’t you think?

I sure want to make them muse,

On my age but give them no clues.

We haven’t meet up for a while,

And you know how some can be vile?

Let’s slap on foundation and blush,

Shadow, mascara and lip flush.

Make haste to conceal any mark,

To show I have plenty of spark!

Smooth my hair with glossy gel.

That’s better..... I truly look well.

New dress and shoes with killer heels,

I know how good fashion appeals.

Now off to the date and face fears,

And hope that I don’t see any sneers.

Hey, they’re about the same age as me,

Bound to be one that looks older..... whoopee.

Stand tall, tummy in, chin up, now move,

Show them that you’re still much in the groove

When I see you

When I see you

When I see you again…

recall those things I miss…

thought I needed,

dreams that were lost.

when I see you again…

it’s from afar, too far,

top of a bus looking down,

cocooned in a pass-by taxi.

When I see you again…

wishfulness, over in a flashback,

I remember why we parted,

Then…I see you.

Beau Brummell Sky

Beau Brummell Sky
Hail Beau Brummell heaven, clad in a cloak of midnight velvet.

swirls of creamy chiffon, fuse with diamonds and sapphires,

strewn with genius by your gifted designer.

Intense…the passion lodged in my heart, etched on my mind.
Had I wings to soar up, caress the ultramarine velour,
flit from gem to gem to admire each jewel
touch this ethereal bliss for just a moment… beyond doubt.
Reflections of your mantle cast radiance on my surround.
An envious sea mirrors you in all your glory.
Crystals in the ochre sands glint on my feet,
bestow me the privilege..to be part of your magnificence.
Elegant beguiler, how many hearts have you stolen tonight?
